Privacy Policy

This is a courtesy translation. Only the German version is legally binding.

This website is deliberately data-minimal: there is no analytics tool, no tracking, no advertising, no social media plugins, no embedded web fonts and no contact form. The website itself sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser’s local storage. It is hosted with a European provider that, by its own account, stores no personal data relating to website visits. Your IP address is nevertheless processed for technical reasons when you visit. The following explains what happens.

1. Controller

The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Dr. Martijn Arts. Full contact details including the postal address can be found in the imprint.

Email: freelance@martijnarts.de

2. Hosting and delivery (statichost.eu)

This website is served via statichost.eu. The provider is Variable Object Assignment, c/o Knackeriet, Svartmangatan 9, 11129 Stockholm, Sweden (“statichost.eu”). The contents are delivered through a European content delivery network.

When you access the website, your IP address is processed because it is technically necessary in order to transmit the requested content to your device. According to the provider, no personal data relating to website visits is stored in the process: server log files contain neither IP addresses nor browser identifiers (user agents). Only anonymous, aggregated usage data is collected — such as the total volume of data transferred, which is used to bill the hosting — and this carries no personal reference.

Purpose and legal basis: the processing serves the secure, stable and performant delivery of this website and the defence against attacks and abusive automated access. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a functional website protected against attack).

Data processing agreement: a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with statichost.eu. The sub-processors named in it are Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany (data centres) and BunnyWay d.o.o., Dunajska cesta 165, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia (content delivery network).

No third-country transfer: the provider and its sub-processors are established exclusively within the European Union. According to the provider, processing takes place solely within the EU or the EEA; no transfer to third countries occurs. Further information is available in statichost.eu’s privacy policy at statichost.eu/privacy.

3. Cookies

This website sets no cookies and uses neither local storage nor session storage. The hosting provider, by its own account, sets no cookies either. No audience measurement and no tracking takes place.

Since accessing this website neither stores information on your terminal equipment nor accesses information already stored there, no consent under § 25 (1) TDDDG is required. For this reason no cookie banner is displayed on this website.

4. Server log files

Beyond the processing of your IP address described in section 2, which is technically necessary for delivery, no access data with a personal reference is stored in log files according to the provider. Such data is not merged with other data sources, nor evaluated for marketing purposes. Where storage is exceptionally required to investigate a specific security incident or to comply with statutory retention obligations, it takes place on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR and only for as long as it is needed for that purpose.

5. Contact by email

This website contains no contact form. If you contact me by email, the details you provide — including your email address and the content of your message — will be stored for the purpose of handling your enquiry.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your enquiry relates to the initiation or performance of a contract, and otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to enquiries). Your data remains with me until you ask me to delete it or the purpose for storing it no longer applies; mandatory statutory retention periods, in particular under commercial and tax law, remain unaffected.

Please note that email may be transmitted unencrypted and can have security vulnerabilities. Complete protection of data against access by third parties is not possible in email communication.

6. External links

This website links to an external profile on LinkedIn. This is a plain hyperlink, not an embedded plugin or button. No data is transmitted to that provider unless you click the link. Once you do, the privacy terms of the respective provider apply.

7. SSL / TLS encryption

For security reasons this website uses SSL or TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the browser address bar changing from “http://” to “https://”. When encryption is active, the data you transmit to this website cannot be read by third parties.

8. Your rights as a data subject

You have the following rights vis-à-vis the controller:

An informal email to freelance@martijnarts.de is sufficient to exercise these rights.

Irrespective of this, you have the right under Art. 77 GDPR to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement. The competent supervisory authority for the controller is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Rhineland-Palatinate.

9. Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy will be amended as changes to this website or to the legal situation require. The version available at the time of access applies.
